The Italian border is about forty minutes from Nice. In a single day you can discover another Riviera: medieval villages, lively markets, botanical gardens and Ligurian cuisine. Here is the itinerary we most often suggest to our clients.
Morning: Menton and Ventimiglia
First stop: Menton, with its colourful old town and seafront. You then cross the border to Ventimiglia, whose big Friday market draws visitors from all over the region. Garden lovers may prefer the Hanbury Botanical Gardens at La Mortola, just past the border.
Lunch: Dolceacqua
In the hinterland, the village of Dolceacqua and its stone bridge, painted by Monet, make an ideal stop for lunch and a taste of the local wine, Rossese.
Afternoon: Sanremo
Sanremo, the city of flowers, charms with its hilltop old town, La Pigna, its casino and its Russian church with golden domes. End the day with a stroll around the port before heading back to Nice.
With a private chauffeur there is no car to rent, no parking to hunt for in narrow streets and no worry about enjoying wine at lunch. Your chauffeur adapts the itinerary to your wishes and waits for you at every stop. To go further, to Genoa or Portofino, see our long-distance trips.
Our tips
To enjoy the Ventimiglia market, set off on a Friday morning. Bring your ID card or passport to cross the border. For a group, a van with driver makes the day even more enjoyable.
